Hamilton Social and Public Health Services Department - Staffing contract for the VAN Needle Exchange Program and partnerships for youth programs and condom distribution
Regional Municipality of Halton Health Department - Advisory committee of Exchange Works, the Halton Needle Exchange Program
McMaster University - Research project involving training curriculum for students in health services as well as extensive referrals and client assistance through the SIS clinic
Social Planning and Research Council (Hamilton) - Hep C Advisory Committee coordinates efforts to provide information, support and advocacy regarding Hepatitis C issues.
AIDS Awareness Week/World AIDS Day initiatives - Miriam Group, North Hamilton Community Health Centre, McMaster SIS Clinic, Halton, Brant and Hamilton Public Health Departments; develop and distribute educational materials, and co-ordinate regional media and publicity activities
Health Initiatives for Youth (HIFY) - Provide space and staff support for GLBT youth group
North Hamilton Community Health Centre - Partnerships with support programs for clients, referrals, workshops
Good Shepherd Centres - Providing emergency food assistance co-ordination

VON Hamilton - Twice yearly training to Palliative Care Teams
POSSE Peer Outreach Support Services and Education Project - This is a collaborative project shared with The AIDS Committee of Guelph and Halton Public Health aimed at at risk youth in Halton Hills.

Additional relationships include SIS clinic, Halton Pride Committee, Aboriginal Health Unit - Hamilton, HOPE - Halton Organization for Pride and Education, Hamilton Pride Unity, women's detox, women's shelters, Sexual Assault Centre, McMaster GLBT student group, Elizabeth Fry Society, John Howard Society, The Living Rock, Mohawk College Child and Youth Worker Program, Niagara College Social Service Worker Program, Canada World Youth, City of Hamilton GLBT Advisory Committee.
These partnerships allow The AIDS Network to effectively provide education and support services; provide HIV/AIDS information and support to the aboriginal communities through existing peer programs and agencies; assist clients with key life issues such as housing and food without duplicating or complicating existing community programs; increase the effectiveness of local needle exchange programs; provide more co-ordinated services for clients dealing with addictions; offer HIV/AIDS information to youth through existing peer programs which utilize appropriate jargon, norms and culture and develop stronger community responses to HIV/AIDS related issues.

 

To prevent HIV transmission and to help people living with HIV/AIDS become informed, accepted and self-determined.

To recognize and respond to the stigma and challenges posed by HIV/AIDS on individuals and communities through education and support.
