November 20th is Transgender Day of Remembrance, a day where we take time to remember and honour the lives of the transgender people who have been killed due to transphobic violence, and to renew our commitment to fight like hell for the living.
2020 has been a particularly deadly year, and is on pace to be the deadliest year for trans people globally in recent memory, all the while hateful transphobic rhetoric has frequently made its way into the public discourse.
We can and must do better. Everyone deserves to live free from fear of violence. We must reject any normalization of transphobia wherever we see it.
Let’s make this Trans Day of Remembrance not just about mourning our losses, but about renewing our commitment to fight for the rights and dignity of all trans folks in our communities and around the world.
