Below are the descriptions of volunteer opportunities available at The AIDS Network.  All opportunities are available at our downtown Hamilton location only at 140 King Street East, Suite 101, Hamilton, ON L8N 1B2.

Reception/Harm Reduction Distribution

 

Available Shifts:

Wednesdays  –  10am to 1pm

 

 

 

 

Reports to Community Engagement Coordinator

Shifts available are 10 am to 1pm or 1pm to 4pm Monday to Friday.

This position otherwise known as “First Contact” requires individuals who are reliable, professional, and have a compassion for working with populations who are living with or vulnerable to HIV, people who use drugs, experiencing homelessness, food insecurity, and various mental health conditions. 

Duties include answering the reception phone and directing calls to the appropriate staff, greeting service users coming in for harm reduction supplies, practical assistance, groups and/or appointments.  Assisting service users with harm reduction and/or food supplies, directing them to the appropriate staff and/or groups. Data entry of harm reductions supplies dispensed, restocking of harm reductions supplies, and kit making from time to time.  Other tasks as assigned by staff.

Full training is provided and staff members/volunteers will always be available to assist.

Requirements

Previous work and/or volunteer experience is an asset.  

Someone who is reliable, professional, a team player, and has a positive/friendly attitude with compassion and empathy.

Police check is required and paid for by The AIDS Network.

Proof of a minimum of (2) COVID-19 vaccinations received.

The VAN

(Passenger Only)

Reports to Harm Reduction Supervisor

Shifts available are 6:00 pm to 11:00 pm – Monday to Sunday

This position will require you to ride with the VAN driver and assist with handing out harm reduction supplies to people who use drugs.  Full training will be provided.

Requirements

Related work and/or volunteer experience is an asset.

Must be available for at least (1) weekend shift and (1) shift during the week.

(2) days of training in our Hamilton harm reduction area.  

Police check is required and paid for by The AIDS Network.

Proof of a minimum of (2) COVID-19 vaccinations received.

Fundraising

We are always looking for volunteers to assist with event planning or on the day of events.

Reports to Community Engagement Coordinator

1 to 2 meetings per month of 45 minutes duration plus flexible time completing tasks and/or working day of fundraising events.

This position will appeal to those who have a drive for fundraising.  It will allow you to be part of the planning process, take part on the day of any fundraising event, help obtain prizes and/or sponsorships, and assist in recruiting restaurants for our annual Taste for Life event and the opportunity to host a restaurant.

Requirements

Previous work and/or volunteer experience is an asset.

Availability to attend 1 to 2 meetings per month and complete assigned tasks related to the planning of upcoming fundraising event(s).

Attend the events to assist with tasks assigned.

Police check is required and paid for by The AIDS Network.

Proof of a minimum of (2) COVID-19 vaccinations received.

 

Kit Making

(Harm Reduction)

 

Monday, Wednesday, Friday shifts

10am to 1pm or 1pm to 4pm

This position will require individuals to make various harm reduction kits for distribution out of our harm reduction room.
