Today, Canada’s chief public health officer Dr Theresa Tam officially announced that the Public Health Agency of Canada is recommending that everyone wear non-medical face masks when physical distancing of 2 meters is not possible. The AIDS Network wishes to help ensure that everyone has access to non-medical face masks, especially people who are more vulnerable due to social determinants like street involvement, poverty, living in a shelter or using drugs. People who are less likely to be able to physically distance are also less likely to have an accessible supply of non-medical face masks, and so we want to begin distributing these masks through our mobile harm reduction service The Van. But we need your help to do it! If you are handy with a sewing machine or have access to a supply of non-medical face masks, please consider making a donation of masks to The AIDS Network, and help us make sure everyone who needs one can have one.
