Call for Volunteers to join our Board of Directors

 

We are seeking the involvement of leaders within our community to support and advance the Mission of The AIDS Network. We currently have one vacancy on our Board of Directors. There are also opportunities to serve on our Board Committees such as Finance, Fundraising and Governance.

 

Our Mission

The AIDS Network responds to the impact of HIV on the health and well-being of individuals and diverse communities in Hamilton, Halton, Haldimand, Norfolk and Brant.

Our Vision

We see a world without new infections, and a full and healthy life for people living with and vulnerable to HIV.

 

We have a need for the expertise of a lawyer, an accountant, and individuals with experience in Finance, Business, Fundraising and Marketing/Communications. The AIDS Network values lived experience of community members as a part of good governance and accountability.

 

The AIDS Network values inclusion and diversity and promotes access and equity using an anti- racism, anti-oppression framework. Persons living with HIV are encouraged to apply.

 

Who Are We?

The AIDS Network is a registered charitable organization and offers services to the 1.5 million people living in the communities of Hamilton, Halton, Haldimand, Norfolk and Brant. Since 1986, The AIDS Network has been the primary voice for HIV/AIDS prevention, education, and support.

 

The Ideal Candidate

 For our Board of Directors, we are seeking individuals who:

 

  • are passionate about contributing to The AIDS Network’s Mission and Vision.
  • have a familiarity with principles relating to not-for-profit governance and strategic planning.
  • are prepared to participate in the identification and recruitment of new Directors and Committee members.
  • are prepared to personally support and participate in philanthropic initiatives including the identification and recruitment of prospective donors/sponsors to increase community engagement.
  • can commit to participating in approximately 6 meetings (typically 2 hours in length) each year.
  • can commit to participating on at least one Board Committee (Executive, Finance, Governance, Fundraising)

 

Responsibilities:

  • Regularly attends Board of Director meetings & important related meetings.
  • Makes a serious commitment to participate actively in agency governance activities such as committee work.
  • Volunteers for and willingly accepts assignments and completes them thoroughly and on time.
  • Stays informed about Board of Director/committee matters, prepares themselves well for meetings and reviews and comments on minutes and reports.
  • Gets to know other committee members and builds a collegial working relationship that contributes to consensus.
  • Is an active participant in the committee’s annual evaluation and planning efforts?
  • Participates in fundraising for the organization.
  • Mentors new Directors
